  • Meet Dr. Tammy Lin and Dr. Tiffany Leung, Executive Producers
  • Goals of the podcast include generate a continuing conversation around diversity, equity, and inclusion to connect, learn, share stories, and address challenges: a safe and bold space to understand different perspectives
  • Importance of professional societies and organizations in terms of supporting mentorship, networking, and fostering connections
  • Proud to bring diverse, enthusiastic, and fresh voices together

  • [7:49] Meet Dr. Pooja Jaeel - founder of the ACP California Council of Student Members and an ACP resident blog series chronicling internship year for a diverse group of interns. Fostering of more diverse voices and role models is important to help other trainees, in patient care, and developing future leaders
  • [11:09] Meet Dr. Maggie Kozman - groundbreaking work in developing diversity, equity, and inclusion curriculum for residents and increasing recruitment of underrepresented minorities within medicine. Important to diversify our health care workforce and to talk about implicit bias, microaggressions, to create a welcome environment
  • ​[14:21] Meet Dr. DJ Gaines - a future Chief Resident in internal medicine at UCSD. Goal is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in residency, to change the way residents are recruited and supported, and to increase the number of mentors of color
  • [17:39] Meet Dr. Brittäne Parker - hospitalist and Associate Program Director for the Transitional Residency in Arizona. Importance of culture and communication in creating an inclusive learning and work environment and for those of diverse backgrounds to participate and contribute
  • [19:05] Sarah Takimoto - advocate, educator, leader, and creator of safe spaces for medical students. Importance of safe spaces in clinical training to speak about microaggressions from patients and team members and to continue conversations around DEI

[22:45] - Intro to The DEI Shift Production Assistants
  • [23:09] Sarahy Martinez - a UCSD student on the importance of seeing physicians of colors especially coming from an underrepresented community.  Goal is to change medicine and higher education through inspiring conversation around DEI issues
  • ​[25:30] Deepti Yechuri - a UCSD student on the importance of speaking up and creating dialogue around about racism and DEI issues, especially coming from groups that have a “model minority” myth
